High School Girls Halaqa

Ages: 13 and up

Time: Saturdays, 6-8 pm

Location: OPPC Lower Level

The High School Girls Halaqa started in 2013 as Ebad AlRahman under the Muslim American Society (MAS). Ever since, the halaqa adopted the concept of “ta’aruf” which in Arabic translates to “the process of getting to know one another.” The goal of the halaqa has been to foster a strong bond of sisterhood among the girls and create an environment where high school girls are comfortable speaking to each other about issues that being a Muslim girl in America faces. The halaqa has played a major role in helping girls decide to wear the hijab, and has been a source of friendship and trust to all those who attend. The HS Girls Halaqa is for HS girls ages 13 and up. The halaqa is currently led by Shereen Salama, a pharmacy student at Midwestern University who can be reached at shereensalama@rocketmail.com or 708-289-2808. The halaqa meets every Saturday evening from 6-8 pm and has been recently following the series of “Stories from the Quran.” To subscribe to the halaqa, text @hsoppc to 81010.
