And When the Believers Celebrate the Victory of Allah

“Yet after their defeat, they shall be triumphant over them within several years. The command of all creation belongs to God alone before their coming victory and thereafter. And on that day of triumph the believers will rejoice in the victory of God. He gives victory to whomever He so wills. For He alone is the Overpowering One, the Mercy-Giving.” (Surat Ar-Rum verses 4-5)

(Translation by Ahmad Zaki Hammad)

Indeed, “the victory of Allah is near.” Indeed, “there is no victory except from Allah.” And certainly, “the day of triumph and celebration of the believers over the victory of Allah.” My brothers and sisters, all we can say everyday is “Alhamdulilah.” The day of the victory of Allah ﷻ has come. Not only has the day of the victory of Allah ﷻ come, but an even greater victory still awaits the Muslim ummah in the near future by the will and grace of Allah ﷻ. First, we saw the victory of Allah ﷻ prevail for our brothers and sisters in Syria only a couple of months ago. Now, in the month of January, we have seen the beginning of the promised victory for our brothers and sisters in Gaza and the entirety of Palestine in the near future.

While all of the odds seemed to be overwhelmingly against the Palestinian people in Gaza, they still prevailed. Allah’s ﷻ victory always prevails over the oppressors. It does not matter how strong the aggressor seems to be, the soldiers of Allah ﷻ, some of which we see and others whom we may not see, will always protect the innocent people against the oppressors. Allah ﷻ does not let anything go unnoticed or unpunished. Indeed, He ﷻ has his plan that we are not aware of and only He ﷻ knows best. Never lose hope and faith in the mercy of your Lord!

With this beautiful victory and ceasefire for our brothers and sisters in Gaza, I will highlight two primary Hikmah (wisdoms) of Allah ﷻ that were proven through this genocide on Gaza and the ceasefire.

Firstly, the verse above outlines a well-known historical occurrence in Islam, which was the battle between Talut and Jalut (Goliath). To be brief, the major significance of this story is that the army of believers under Talut, of which were a much smaller quantity, defeated the much larger army of Goliath. It was only through the will and help of Allah ﷻ that this victory was possible. This is not the only instance in Islamic history of such an occurrence taking place. We also saw this take place with the Battle of Badr. In this battle, the Muslim army led by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who were 300, defeated the much larger army of the disbelievers, who were 1,000. Not only that, but the disbelievers had far more advanced fighting equipment and horses and camels. Yet despite all of that, the Muslims still won through the will of Allah ﷻ. From the dua of the Prophet ﷺ and the soldiers that Allahﷻ, in which no one can see or know about except Allah ﷻ Himself, the Muslims emerged victorious.

This then brings us right into the second piece of wisdom, which is this concept of soldiers of Allah ﷻ, some of which we may see and know about, and others of which we may not see or know about. We make this dua often when praying for the victory of all Muslims from their oppressors around the world. The translation of the dua in English is, “Oh Allah! Bring down your soldiers whom we do not know about except you.” These soldiers may be angels, who we cannot see or at least will not know that they are angels, or it can even be normal people that Allah ﷻ has chosen and blessed to be His soldiers in the Dunya.

After going through these concepts of wisdom from Islamic history, how do they apply to our topic? I completely see the victory in Gaza as a perfect example of both of these miracles. Firstly, it does not matter how small a Muslim group may seem when fighting a much larger enemy. As long as Allah ﷻ wills it, they will happen because His support is all they need. Allah ﷻ sends reinforcements and support to help the Muslims in battles that may seem impossible by sending his hidden soldiers. Again, these soldiers may be from the heavens or the earth. There is no other explanation for the victory in Gaza. Gaza, a rather small population of people confined to a tight space with no means to defend themselves, facing all of the world superpowers. Yet, they still emerged victorious even with all of the odds against them. This is the decree of Allah ﷻ.

My brothers and sisters, as Ramadan is less than a month away, I usually will write about preparations for the holy month. However, you can refer back to previous articles for that if needed. This month, I need to focus on the ongoing humanitarian effort for the Palestinian people in Gaza. Now, with the ceasefire in place and aid being allowed to enter the Gaza strip, they need your support now more than ever. Let us ensure that we give generously to the humanitarian aid organizations for Gaza this Ramadan. Remember, giving zakat is one of the greatest good deeds one can possibly do, especially during the month of Ramadan, the most holy month of the year.

We ask Allah ﷻ to make us among the merciful and compassionate ones so that He will have mercy upon us. We ask Allah ﷻ to make us among those who forgive so that we may be forgiven for our shortcomings. We ask Allah ﷻ to accept all of our zakat. We ask Allah ﷻ to protect our brothers and sisters in Gaza from all evil and harm. We ask Allah ﷻ to accept our fasting and good deeds during this blessed month of Ramadan. Allahumma Ameen.
