Orland Park Prayer Center

The Prayer Center of Orland Park

We lie awake in a dream
On gravel roads and narrow streets
In our homes with beds and sheets
Sleeping comfortably, a life at ease…

We lie awake in a dream
As a child is taken before our eyes
They scream and holler, terrified
Their ease is gone, they have nowhere to hide.

We lie awake in a dream
Waves crash over the sand on shore
A cry from a distance, loud like war
Swallowed by water, yet we ignored

We lie awake in a dream
People of all races run for their lives
A gun is pulled in public; humanity cries
An innocent pedestrian murdered, his scream, sharp like knives.

We lie awake in a dream
Ignoring what is in front of us
Misguided information leads to distrust
A nation divided, people combust

We lie awake in a dream
Where we stare at stars and expect to see
Unknown futures and inaccurate leads
Humanity falling like string and beads

We lie awake in a dream
And do nothing to wake up…
