The Prayer Center of Orland Park

What makes you scared of me?

I really want to know why are you so afraid?

Is it the way I look or the way I dress?

I do not see how since the color of my skin is the same as yours.

It’s the towel wrap on my head, right?

I say towel wrap because that is what you see it as.

I have my own definition for it.

This right here on my head is the Hijab.

It is a symbol of beauty.

Racism and discrimination have been around for too long.

What happened to freedom of religion?

Not surprised though, amendments mean absolutely nothing in this world nowadays.

I will never understand why Muslims are looked down upon.

Why is Islamophobia even a thing?

Why is racism a thing?

Why is discrimination a thing?

It is a sick and brutal world we live in

Where I cannot even be myself because laws are being proposed.

Tell me why is it okay for Muslims to suffer?

Who gave you the right to strip, piece by piece, my religion from me?

What if the tables were turned?

Think about this.

What if I were scared of you?

Your white skin, your religion?

Oh wait… I am petrified each day.

Stepping foot outside can lead to many different encounters.

I am shamed for being a Muslim, I am told to “go back to my country.”

This is my country though.
