Has it ever crossed your mind that one day you will die?
Have you ever thought that one day your whole existence could vanish?
That one day your loved ones would be taken away from this Dunya
No matter how young you are or how old
Your very last breath could be taken
One day I had to truly think when this question was presented to me
As I witnessed the mourning of my own family
As I heard the sobs of my loved ones crying over our family that we had just lost
I sat there contemplating to myself, am I ready?
I took it all in, what death really meant
How, in an instant, it could come like that
How possible it is that we may not outlive our own parents
One day my parents could be burying me
How, one day, I could be here
Then the next, I could disappear into thin air
It made me realize that we can always plan things, but the unexpected will always happen
I thought to myself, am I ready?
Have I done everything that Allah expected of me to do?
Did I reach His expectations? Did I reach my own?
Did I take advantage of this Dunya?
Did I succeed in the test of Allah?
I do not believe that we are ever really ready to die
What I believe is that Allah gives us chances to prove ourselves as people
Allah chooses when it is time for us to leave this Dunya
When someone dies, a relative, a spouse, a child,
We go into this stage of shock
In a way, we realize that Allah took this person from our lives as a sign
A sign to grow closer to Him and Islam
A sign to repent to Him and seek Him
A sign to always remember why we are really here in this Dunya
A sign to remember what it is to be a Muslim
The biggest sign of all to remember that just like that we can be taken away from this Dunya instantly
To always remember this saying,
“Indeed, to God, we belong and to God, we shall return.”
So, let me ask you, are you ready?
